Brief History

The College, situated in sylvan surroundings, was established as Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Government composite college in the year 1968 with an initial humble strength of 173 students.  Since its inception, it has been striving hard to impart quality and job oriented education to the students of socially and economically backward area of the Rayalaseema. 

The college offers 14 programmes including conventional and restructured courses at UG level and 03 programmes at PG level. Around1000 students  are  pursuing higher education in this institution in this academic year 2021-22. Out of which 80% belong to SC, ST and BC communities.

There are about 44 faculty of staff geared up to cater to the academic and professional needs of the students and train them to take advantage of the global employment opportunities. Out of 44 faculty members, 11 hold Ph.D’s, 8 hold M.Phils, 12 are qualified in NET and 06 members are pursuing Ph.D degrees now . There are 28 Non teaching staff members, assisting the administration for its smooth functioning. The college is in the process of Reaccreditation, the NAAC peer Team visited the college from 27^th to 29^th Nov 2013 and completed cycle -2 with CGPA of 2.76.

In 2006 the college is bifurcated into separate Degree College and applied for Post graduate Courses. Initially M.Com was introduced later on MA ( English, Telugu and Political Sciences) and M.Sc ( Chemistry ) were added in 2012.

The College has NCC wing for boys from 1983 , NCC Girls wing was sanctioned in 2015. Further Modern Gym, ICT enabled classesrooms , Digital Class rooms , Computer Science and Computer Applications Lab were added for Students benefit. R.O. Water is provided from 2016, A new Cement Road is laid up to college from main road in 2019. The College grew both organically and inorganically with large strides becoming leading Higher Educational Institution in the entire revenue division and one the top 3 institution in the district.

AREA PROFILE:

Guntakalis a town in Anantapur district in the southwestern part of the state of Andhra Pradesh and 50 km away from Bellary of Karnataka, India. It is headquarters of SC Railway Diviisional Head Quarters and has a population of 2,26,479. As per provisional data of 2011 census, Guntakal municipality had a population of 2,26,479, out of which males were 62,695 and females were 63,784. The literacy rate was 75.70 per cent. With 48% of slum population and BPL population around 68% , as per the municipal records , the people and students of the region need support from government in Higher Education. S.K.P. college has been serving the knowledge needs of the region in higher education  for the last 54 years.
