ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

            The Department of Commerce is one of the major departments of the college in terms of the strength of students since its inception. It has paved a way to and many luminaries .Since its establishment during the year 1968-69 the department has been in the fore front in catering to the educational needs of not only students from urban areas but also large number of students from economically poor and downtrodden communities  from rural villages around Guntakal.

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT:

            The Institution had been established as composite college offering UG courses along with Intermediate course. The sanctioned strength of B.Com English Medium was 60 and B.Com Telugu Medium was 80. It was a composite college till its bifurcation on 01-09-1996.

            To match with the changing trends and the growth in demand in the light of Liberalization, Privatisation and Globalisation, B.Com (Computer Application course) was introduced during the year2000-2001 with a sanctionedstrength of 40 students.

Introduction of PG Course:

            With a view to help students from poverty ridden communities from rural villages who cannot afford to go to Universities to pursue post graduation courses, M.Com (General) course was introduced from the Academic year2005-06 with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. Admissions are held through a common Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGCET) and counseling system conducted by Sri Krishna Devaraya University,Ananthapuram.

ESTABLISHMENT OF COMPUTER LAB:

            After the introduction of self financing course i.e., B.Com (Computer Applications) in the year 2002 ,Computer Lab was established with 10 computers with the help and cooperation of Sri Kalava Srinivasulu,M.P Ananthapur under M,P LADS.Sri R.R.Swamy then lecturer Incharge of the department,and Sri P.Janardhana Sastry shared the credit for installing computers for Commerce departmentby their consistent efforts.Later on the lab was kupgraded with 30 systems with networking of Thin clients connected to two servers.And an LCD projector is also installed to facilitate effective ICT based teaching and learning process.

DIGITAL CLASS ROOM:

            Under the initiative of Commissioner of Collegiate Education ,Andhra Pradesh a Digital Class Room eeuipment is also installed in the lab in the year 2018. Out of three Digital Class Rooms sanctioned under the Rashtriya Ucchata Siksha Abhiyan(RUSA) funding by  the Ministry of Human Resourse Development,Govt.of India along with the matching grants of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh  one is allotted to the Department of Commerce.This  further strengthens the departmental efforts to impart qualitative teaching and learning activity.

DEPARTMENT LIBRARY:

            The Commerce Department has a library with good number of latest and old text books on commerce subjects as well as books for reference purpose and related journals. Text books are issued to the students under SC, ST Book Bank facility. The department staff collects latest information and knowledge on the subjects concerned by referring news papers, periodicals, journals etc., and makes it available for the students for easy reference. A collection of previous examinations question papers on all subjects are made available to the students for their use.

STUDENT COUNSELLING AND WARD SYSTEM:

            All the staff members are actively involved in student counseling and in charge of a particular class for the purpose. Care and sympathetic attention is being paid to the problems of the students with, affection, and attention.
